Laikipia West Constituency cheque issuance
Today, Uwezo Fund in Laikipia West Constituency issued cheques amounting to Kshs 10.5 million to 91 beneficiary groups.
The event, held at Sipili Stadium in Laikipia West Constituency, was graced by Uwezo Fund Board Director Ms. Wanjiku Muhato, Uwezo Fund Constituency Patron and MP for Laikipia West, Hon. Karani Stephen Wachira, and County Woman Rep Hon Jane Kagiri.
During the event, Kshs 10 million was disbursed to 80 new groups, while Kshs 2.5 million was disbursed to 11 groups, being repeat borrowers. The highest loan advanced to groups in the Constituency amounted to Kshs 500,000.
This initiative aims to enhance economic resilience among community groups and businesses, especially MSMEs.
Some of the beneficiary groups drawn from the Constituency showcased their products, being poultry farming, small scale retail business and beadwork products. The stories highlighted the diversity and potential of small-scale businesses in Laikipia west, and the potential to foster a culture of sustainability and socio-economic growth within the county and the region.
Notably sharing its success story during the event, Mazingira Safi, a group of 16 members, initially started in 2014 with Kshs 50,000 invested in poultry and table banking done on a monthly basis.
After repayment, they were loaned Kshs 200,000.00 which they invested in goat rearing. The group prides in an opportunity to get the third loan from uwezo Fund of Kshs. 400,000 which they plan to utilize to inject into the growth of their table banking practice, this, they said will increase the group's lending capacity to a loan level of Kshs. 100,000 for successful members within the group.
While sharing their successful story, Victory Women Group explained that they started in 2001 with 25 members. In 2014 they received an initial funding of Kshs. 50,000, which they invested in table banking. The group received subsequent loans amounting to Kshs. 100,000; 200,000 and 400,000. During the event, the group received Kshs. 500,000, which they aim to utilize to expand their goat, chicken, and rental houses businesses.
During the event Uwezo Fund also planted 2,000 trees, towards improving the forest cover. Of these, 200 exotic tree seedlings were planted at Sipili Police Station, and 1,800 were distributed to the event participants to be planted and nurtured at their homes.
